GAME-A-GEDDON – Quarantine Gaming Tips

Social distancing does not mean to kill your social life, pick up gaming to keep you active and social

Coronavirus (COVID-19) is everywhere, the world is in fear, and everyone is stuck inside miserable from social distancing. Not us gamers though! Let’s face it, it’s like we were bred for this. It is weird seeing everyone go stir crazy under quarantine, being home is difficult for them. They need someone to talk to, they are getting bored easily, they are yearning for sunlight and we are straight up chilling. All us gamers really need – is a good internet connection, some snacks, and we are set. For those who’ve thought long about gaming, or want to pick gaming back up, this would be a great time to. There are some awesome game options out there for everyone. Here’s how gaming can help you enjoy your “social distancing.”

Get a Party Chat started

You can start a party on the PS or XBOX consoles. You don’t even have to be playing the same game to do so. The friends I play with love to play NBA 2K20 while I play the campaign in Final Fantasy XV. Having that party chat gives you the feeling that you are around your buddies. It also gives you the control of how much you are contributing to the conversation and the fact that you are physically home alone, you still have that privacy.

Stream a New Game

Whether you use Mixer or Twitch, streaming your gameplay has become very easy.  If you are an XBOX ONE player, Mixer is integrated right into your console. For PlayStation, you have the options of Twitch and YouTube to stream directly to. Just setup your account, then connect it within the settings of your console to be ready to stream straight from your console. Here’s the real fun part about streaming a new game…you have no idea what you are getting yourself into and neither do the followers.  So this ends up becoming a real adventure for everyone! And if you feel like being talkative, you can have a chatbox open to interact with your viewers and start building some online friendships!

Cooperative GamePlay

Very similar to having a Party Chat but this is where you can get some social gaming in by cooperative games with a campaign battle royale with friends or complete strangers. Some great options for cooperative campaigns are Tom Clancy’s The Division 1 or 2, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, Borderlands 3, or any of the Halo games. Or if you want to get into a battle royale, you can play games like Fortnite, PUBG, Apex Legends or the new Call of Duty War Zone. Some honorable mentions are Uno Online, Overcooked 2, Mario Party, Mario Kar, and Smash Brothers.

Move Around

Let’s not become couch potatoes now. Get up in between certain parts of the game to get that blood flowing. When my friends and I play Division 2, every time someone goes down, we stop and do 10 crunches. If someone goes completely unconscious in the game, you have to get down and do 10 pushups and 10 squats or lunges. This forces us to be active even while gaming. You can get a whole workout in while this social distancing is keeping us indoors.
