Sony Dual Sense Edge Controller AyoMega Review

We as gamers are no strangers to “Premium style pro controllers”, the new entry to us all is the Sony Dual Sense Edge Controller. Let’s dive into how it pans out.

For many years, there have been a plethora of offerings from 3rd party pro controller providers – Astro with their C40 line, Scuf’s lines of custom styled controllers, and Xbox’s in-house Elite series controller, just to name a few. After 25 years, Sony has finally decided to throw their hat into the pro controller ring with its own in-house created premium controller.

Customizable Experience

The Sony Dual Sense Edge Controller offers a range of features that allow you to tailor your gaming experience to your individual play style and preferences. It is an excellent choice for gamers who want a highly customizable and versatile gaming experience. One of the most impressive features of the Dual Sense Edge is its customization options.

The changeable stick caps and remappable inputs allow you to adjust stick sensitivity and dead zones, as well as quickly swap between control profiles.

These features allow you to set a distance for your triggers, which provides precision. As a person who loves burst and single fire weapons, getting those quick pop shots has never been so satisfying. Another standout feature of the Dual Sense Edge is its mappable back buttons. You can configure the back buttons for different inputs, so you always have essential controls at your fingertips.

With two different styles of buttons to choose from, you can pick an input type that feels right for your play style. I love using back paddle sprint and dodge roll on games like Elden Ring–it makes avoiding big attacks so easy. This freed up my thumbs to allow for better camera control and movement.

In addition to its customization features, the Dual Sense Edge also includes all the immersive features of the Dual Sense wireless controller. These features, such as adaptive triggers, haptic feedback, and signature controller comfort, make your gaming experience more realistic and enjoyable.

The ability to feel varying force and tension at your fingertips with adaptive triggers, and experience in-game actions and environments simulated through haptic feedback, truly elevates your gaming experience.

The Dual Sense Edge also comes with a carrying case to keep your controller and its components organized and in one spot. And the cherry on top, you can even charge the controller via a USB connection while it’s stored, ensuring you’re always ready for your next play session.

Sony Dual Sense Edge Controller Battery Life

Now that I have gushed about all the great features of this controller, I can’t go on without mentioning the “Achilles heel” of this controller, that being its poor battery life. The Dual Sense Edge controller has a 1,050mAh battery, while the Dual Sense controller has a 1,560mAh battery.

In practical use, this results in a shorter battery life, typically providing five to six hours of wireless playtime before needing to be charged.

I was able to play God of War Ragnarök, MW2 and Elden Ring for 7 and a half hours with this controller, by reducing the Light Bar, haptic feedback and adaptive trigger setting. This may be a drawback for some users, particularly for extended gaming sessions. For the $200 price tag, I wish this wasn’t the main issue for this otherwise brilliant controller.

Dual Sense Edge Controller

What’s the Word? – MEGA APPROVED!

In conclusion, the Sony Dual Sense Edge wireless controller is a great choice for that specific core gamer looking to up their game with customizable controls and swappable profiles. With its heavy features of remappable buttons, adjustable triggers, stick sensitivity, and built-in immersive features, the possibilities to make it your own are there for the Pro in mind.

For the cons, this controller Isn’t for everyone, and battery life may be a big hit depending on the person, especially for the $200 price. If you’re willing to look past a few flaws, this controller offers a truly personalized gaming experience.
