Ocean Cube Art Expo Review | GEEK CITY FINDS

Do you love artsy pop-up shops?  Are you in NYC for vacation or work/live here?  Are you environmentally woke?  If you answered yes to any of those questions, you would love a new pop up art expo, the Ocean Cube located right in Lower Manhattan.  I went there this past week and it was an awesome time!

The Ocean Cube pop-up is an experiential space that offers participants a futuristic habitable under-sea world. It creates a reality where you are traveling through the ocean as if you are on an actual highway.  All around you are tendrils from jellyfish, pearls caught in nets, a relaxed whale waiting to be greeted and lots and lots of bubbles.

The way that they constructed the sea creatures is cool because they utilize wire-type lighting to emulate bio-luminescence.  The soft light that comes from each sculpture makes it hard to take your eyes off of it.  I found myself staring at the whale in the jellyfish room as if I was in a trance.

Ocean Cube uses an artistic approach to help raise awareness of how we directly impact our environment in our everyday activities.  The entire exhibit is made up of recycled materials so the saying “one person’s trash is another person’s treasure” really rings here. They collaborate with an organization called Sure We Can – founded in 2007 – which donated one thousand plastic bottles to contribute to one of their room

With their 5 different rooms, you can definitely get immersed in the world that they created with like-worthy content for your IG page.

Artists + Collaborators

Kun Wu is the founder of Ocean Cube and with fellow designers Carol Zhang and Randy Fernando, they were able to collaborate with an immensely talented group of artists, creatives, designers, non-profit organizations, educational institutions, and local vendors to bring this together.  Sometimes, it does take a village.

They will be in the city until October 23rd so hurry up and check it out!
