I shouldn’t have to tell how excited we are all for E3 2018 showcasing all sorts of gaming goodies for us to melt our eyes to. PlayStation being at the top of the rest, will they keep momentum and give us the future of PS4 or the upcoming PS5? Here are my TYTE 10 Sony PlayStation e3 predictions that may come into fruition.
Playstation-Exclusive New IP Battle Royale Game
With the current climate of the Battle royale genre that is trending, we can expect to see some sort of permanent PlayStation-Exclusive royale to bring in a greatly large audience to the PlayStation family. This is based on the major success of Battle Royale games such as PUBG and H1Z1 on PC only to be ported to console, wrecking millions of players in a few days with major profits, not to mention the King of the BR genre right now, Fortnite. Fortnite Battle Royale is a highly profitable title, surpassing #1 globally profiting games such as Grand Theft Auto V. FPS video game titans such as Call of Duty: Black Ops IV and rumored for Battlefield V are also joining in on the BR parade, with Call of Duty sacrificing its story campaign to achieve such goals. It would be genius for Sony to invest in such a hot market as quickly as possible, and where it’s not a better place to showcase it, but the biggest gaming expo of all.
Jak 4
The Jak 4 game has been in development since the reveal of the first The Last of Us game, by Naughty Dog, which was confirmed by them around E3 2012. However, its progression has been in limbo by Naughty Dog due to the transition period of PS2 to PS3 and the bringing on of The Last of Us and the award winning Uncharted 4.
As of before, the last two Jak games (“Daxter”, a spin-off, “Jak and Daxter: The Lost Frontier”) have been separately developed by Ready at Dawn, and the other by High Impact Games, differing from its originator Naughty Dog. However, with the success of old Sony exclusive IPs being revamped, such as “Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy” selling 2.5 million copies, and Shadow of the Colossus selling 6 million copies worldwide (a 70% increase from its PS2 release) as remasters, there is definitely a market for Jak 4 to flourish in. In addition, it is highly requested franchise to bring back. So a Jak 4 tease would be no surprise unless it is still being considered under Naughty Dogs development, who I would assume is busy with a much bigger title, The Last of Us 2.
Bloodborne 2?
It is possible that the revealing of a Bloodborne sequel is right around the corner. Bloodeborne 2 has been a hot topic for a couple of years now and has gained recent traction due to the Shadows Die Twice reveal at the Game Awards 2017, which is being developed by FromSoftware, the creators of the Dark Souls and Bloodborne series.
The object or weapon shown throughout the whole teaser is bloodied, with a big bone attached, rope and metal object, which gives off easily the eerie vibe from the Bloodborne series and its steampunk morphing weapons, which is the series trademark. A Japanese themed background is also conveyed to us from the writings and music. Bloodborne taking place in an ancient empire would not be too foreign from the games lore, as Katanas (a Japanese sword) is usable in game, as it was in the Souls series that took place in European areas during both medieval & Victorian eras. One Japanese character named “Yamamura the Wanderer” was in the Old Hunters DLC. More proof of a Bloodborne sequel is due to Bloodborne recently being available as a free PS Plus game, possibly to familiarize both old and new players with what’s to come. But there’s a catch based upon two predictable factors below…
A Tenchu Sequel/Reboot
Tenchu was an old Japanese ninja stealth game released in 1998 in Feudal Japan. The teaser of Shadows Die Twice at the Game Awards, which displays a quick sound of Japanese flutes and Ancient Kanji calligraphy writings on the wall, hints at a possible revival of this game. This has been speculated due to the title of the reveal itself “Shadows Die Twice”, with shadows being a major factor in the Tenchu series. FromSoftware doing a stealth based game with the difficulty of souls would be refreshing, but risky, as Tenchu is a very old franchise that not even myself was familiar with, but could be worth it for new gameplay from FromSoftware.
FromSoftware New IP?
Miyazaki, the creator of both the Souls series and Bloodborne, talked about working on a new IP in a 2016 interview. Fromsoftware could be working on a totally new franchise as they have done with Bloodborne game. However, the only con of this prediction is because personally to me making a new IP while an already established IP Bloodborne not receiving at least a single sequel seems slightly strange to me, but somewhat understandable based upon the lore of the game.
Ghost of Tsushima gameplay
Ghost of Tsushima developed by Sucker Punch Productions is a PlayStation exclusive game revealed at the Paris Games Week in 2017. The trailer gave as a tease at what the story and setting would be about, with shots of open world gameplay, but did not show any gameplay mechanics such as combat, leaving much to be desired from this graphically intriguing open world game. Those desires should be met in the lineups of Sony E3, giving Sony fans more to await for.
PlayStation Network ID Change
During PlayStation Experience 2017, Shawn Layden made a hint to stay tune to E3 when the crowd shouted PSN IDs. REDinFamy reported in on the drop while on site. So the future is possible for a change in that embarrassing PSN ID title you made as a confused teenager that you regret as a current adult.
