During Evo Japan 2023, Bandai Namco dropped news on Tekken 8 with a trailer that Reveals Leroy Smith is now part of the official Tekken 8 roster.
The trailer featured the master of Wing Chun martial arts and featured a new moniker as the King of Drip? I am not sure if that is reaching to appeal to us Black/Brown players or to try to appeal to Gen Z. I personally felt it was a bit reaching. Besides the new nickname, nothing was corny about the gameplay featured. Seeing the hero of NYC with a Times Square background owning opponents with his fast hands, new parries, and mix-ups powered by the unreal engine 5.
We also witnessed his so-called “super”, which is a new mechanic in the Tekken franchise called “Heat System”. The Heat System is a new mechanic that relates to activating a super move, giving players a tactic to incorporate special movements and enhancement of character ability based on each character’s unique features.
Tekken 8 has yet to drop an official release date, but it is an official current gen title that will release on PC, PS5 and Series X|S. Stay tuned for more developments, because we are hyped to find out too.
