There are so many books in my backlog right now, it may be longer than REDinFamy’s gaming backlog, if that’s possible. This month, I’m going to attempt to read three books and three different Manga’s. Here is my August 2020 reading list pick for the month.
Last month, I read two volumes of My Hero Academia, To Your Eternity, and Marie Lu’s latest book, The Kingdom of Back. If you are not familiar with any of these Manga’s nor Marie Lu, please become familiar.
For Marie Lu, I would start with her Legend Series. Once you’ve finished that series, read all her other series and thank me later!
Now, on to what I’m reading this month. July will be filled with new perspectives within the same story. To start it off, “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes”, by Suzanne Collins. The story begins during the tenth ‘Hunger Games’ which is before Katniss Everdeen was even thought of. We’ll follow Coriolanus Snow and his rise to power in the Capitol. As much as I couldn’t stand him while reading ‘The Hunger Games,’ I’m looking forward to reading how he became the man he was.
“On The Come Up,” by Angie Thomas, will be next in line. This book is set in the same neighborhood as “The Hate U Give,” but it has nothing to do with that story. Taking place in Garden Heights, the main character in this story is aspiring to be a hip-hop artist. The title of the book is the name of her song that, “protests racial profiling and the assault she endures at the hands of white security guards at her high school.” Angie has also tackled racial profiling in her first book, so getting a new take on it through hip-hop should be a treat. I love music, so this should be a hit for me as well and the idea of being able to see the same neighborhood through a new character’s eyes has me excited.
My final read for this month will be “Midnight Sun,” by Stephenie Meyer. I love the ‘Twilight’ series so much, now I’ll read the same love story through Edward Cullen’s eyes. Hopefully, this story will take me through his feelings through each book, instead of multiple books. I’m so happy she’s bringing the story back in this way. I hope we can get a story through Jake’s eyes. That poor sexy wolf, ugh!
In the beginning, I mentioned some Manga’s as well, but I usually read those between books. I’ll be reading Vol. 23 of ‘My Hero Academia,’ Vol. 6 of ‘To Your Eternity,’ and I’ll be starting a new series called ‘Magi.’
Everyone knows my love for sneakers and video games, but I’m also an avid reader. I like to read a little bit of everything, but YA (Young Adult) is at the center of my heart. Please send those book recommendations below, and let me know what you’ll be reading this month!
