After two previous controversial expansions to Activisions Destiny 2 (Curse of Osiris, Warmind) which had left its fanbase population plummeting down the drain, Bungie returns out of the darkness in hopes of bringing a new Golden Age that the first Destiny once was with Destiny 2’s third expansion Forsaken (quite fitting title am I right?) . Here I will be discussing in this partial review of the game my first thoughts about the Destiny 2 Forsaken expansion. However, please note that I haven’t obtained the full experience of the game which I will talk about in the full review. Well Guardians lets begin!
Polishing & Patches/Quality of Life
- Eververse
Before even mentioning about the story I think its important to note the many different need changes that the fans have asked for are met from the get go. First and foremost Tess Everis EVERVERSE! Yep, Bungie has finally fixed or at least made Eververse have some sort of tangible control over your Eververse item wants with the introduction of Eververse Tier Bounties & Tickets. These Tickets are obtained each time you level pass level 50’s max. The bounties have three tiers each requiring more tickets such as tier one bounty requiring one ticket for 20 bright dust with the third giving a big 150. this is a great addition to the Eververse system as it helps completely eliminate the the annoyance Eververse once was due to its lack of predictability or showing favor to hard work vs payoff.
- Collections & Vault Space
Collections is Personally one of my most favored additions of this expansion. see i’m a player customization nut and with this new menu i’m enabled to track all of my items and re-obtain ranging from Armour,Ghost shells,Vehicles,Emblems, & Shaders even before Forsaken update . They all come at a small price of Bright Dust,Legendary Shards or Glimmer and vary’s upon the source of the items. This also helps with clearing your vault with the addition of new vault space without worrying about regrets of mistakenly deleting a sweet rare Legendary item and grinding your brains out for it.
- Triumphs
I think hardcore Destiny 2 players will be pleased to know a more organized system has been added to keep track of all kinds of challenges both completed and yet to be in a menu tab called Triumphs. it also covers old challenges completed before this expansion such as leveling up all your all three Guardians and completed raids. Players intrigued by destiny’s lore will be happy to discover the addition of Lore Cards giving new insight to side story’s, planets and characters without logging on to Bungie’s Destiny website to read Dossiers like the previous Destiny.
- Bounties & Daily/Weekly Activities/Infuse
If there is one major aspect about changes Forsaken brings to Destiny 2 its that it pays homage to Destiny 1 and what not a better way then the inclusion of bounties. Unlike Destiny 1, Destiny 2 brings bounties from nearly all quest characters from the game across all planets with the new character “The Spider” giving dozens of them for high priority Wanted Targets. These bounties vary on rewards from a lot of glimmer, legendary shards and faction/planetary tokens such as Vanguard, Crucible, or tokens similar to planets (Io,Mars,Earth, etc). Planet Materials have also been given some high use due to Weapon Infusion changes. Infusing weapons now not only requires legendary shards but a medium amount of materials which varies among weapons. this compliments the addition of Bounties as bounties give a nice package of materials upon completion across planets such as gaining Alkane from doing Sloane’s bounties on Titan planet.
Forsaken Story: so far
Destiny 2’s Forsaken is a darker themed story amongst its previous ones being comparable to Destiny 1’s The Taken King. Perhaps this comes from it being a revenged themed story following the death Cayde-6, something which seems very non-Guardian like which is displayed as you progress(i’ll explain later).
Forsakens story opens off with both Cayde and your guardian teleporting out their ships and walking towards the camera like bad-asses in the reef after theres been a disturbance at the Prison of Elders a previously established location in Destiny House of Wolves formerly ran by the late Mara Sov. Prison of Elders hold all types of the galaxies nastiest and baddest criminals across the solar system. To make long story short Cayde and the guardian meet Petra who explains there’s been a riot. However, they come to realize its not but a breakout from an unknown source. The Guardian and Cayde winds up splitting as Cayde goes lone ranger to deal with the prisons most deadliest holders on his own, deep below far off from both Petra and the Guardian. This leads to him combating them all on his own. After a viscous combat he’s fatally wounded with a destroyed ghost and is then shot by a mysterious figure whose responsible for the outbreak. Once the guardian returns he gains a quick glimpse of Caydes shooter (Uldren Sov) before the villain escapes with his several deadly villains. Next Cayde laying fatally wounded, shares one last and very emotional end sequence with Cayde’s final moments. You then return to the Vanguard to give the bad news with Ikora being the angriest even suggesting all out war on the reef but Zavala whom possesses a more defensive and pacifist stature suggest otherwise for the sake and protection of both the Traveler and Earth as its not the Guardian way. However, the Players Guardians speaks his voice for the first time since Destiny 1 declaring “Uldrin Sov is Mine”. Bungie sets off an dark atmosphere of vengeance personally with the players plead to finally speak on Cayde-6 behalf and declaring a personal war on Uldren Sov with the Vanguard’s abandonment from the conflict leaving you on your quest for vengeance alone.
So far that’s all I have played and will come back soon with the full review once I have gained the full experience of Destiny 2’s Forsaken. let me know in the comments what you think of Forsaken and share your thoughts on any missing details.
